Webcollage'ing my desktop

Webcollage'ing my desktop

I've taken an extream liking to the webcollage applet bundled with xscreensaver. I've been trying to get it to draw my desktop background.

So far, I've almost got it working. I'm running KDE on Fedora core 3. Under Desktop configuration, Background, Advanced options I chose "use the following program for drawing the background" and added webcollage as follows:

Code:
Command: kxsrun webcollage -- -root
Preview Command: kxsrun webcollage -- -root
Executable: webcollage
(I also tried Executable: kxsrun)
What this gave me is indeed a beautiful webcollage background, but no desktop icons!
Also, my desktop no longer responds to right clicks.

Anybody know how to solve this?

Thank's

Boooaz.

Check options in 'Desktop behaviour' (one option lower than 'Background'). Is it set to draw icons?

Yes, It's set - "Show icons on desktop" is checked, as is "Allow programs in desktop window"

I had Icons before I managed to get webcollage running, and as I said, not only are the Icons gone, but my desktop doesn't seem to "catch" my clicks anymore... any ideas?

p.s.
Sorry for the double post...

I've just found out that it looks like webcollage cannot be used as background (because of the way it displays the image). Wondering if there's a patch, but it doesn't look so.

Hmmph... Webcollage also has a mode to output a custom size image.

Is there any way I can schedule webcollage to create that image and then set the desktop to refresh using that image?

and by the way - what prevents webcollage from being a proper desktop?

In advanced settings there's an option for slide show. You need to choose pictures to show, but if you set webcollage to overwrite it, it may work. If you want it to create a new picture very X minutes you can use cron to start it (you need to write a crontab file; man 5 crontab for more info).

Why it cannot be used as background? It draws in the root window. I assume it caused more questions...

People need to be warned that webcollage will also randomly display porn images, which may be unacceptable in some situations. If run during a root session, I would also be concerned about virus infections. I recommend removing it. Control your system.
