Smile Webalizer... getting it to work

So, have a fedora box which comes with webalizer installed...

Did not know this but loaded previously made site files from another linux box. Also changed the usage directory to usage_old and created a new one called usage.

Updated the webalizer.conf file in /etc to reflect the Output directory 'usage'

Problem: this directory is empty and navigating to it or restarting apache or restarting mysqld does not generate an html file that shows usage statistics.

Where does one get such a file or how do I continue reconfiguring the .conf file so that such an html will be generated?

PS The access log location in the .conf file is correct, by the way

LogFile /var/log/httpd/access_log

Any ideas?

Thanks.

hi and welcome! :-)

the htm-files are generated by running webalizer with the conf-file as parameter.
in my case I made a cronjob. e.g.:

for i in /etc/webalizer*.conf; do webalizer -c $i; done

What is i

Dear Overlord,

Thanks for the reply... searched in the .conf file and find no i or $i.

What were you referring to?

I think my question is also, where/how do I set up the cron job.

======================
Added thoughts... put the old index.html in my /usage directory and even noticed that the correct stats showed... then 'accidentally ;-) uploaded the usage.png file and overwrote current stats with ones from a year ago... (from the old box)...

How to get the cron job to refresh again... how to get webalizer to run nicely...

Still trying

======================

PS... In webal*.conf, the pre and post <html> lines are commented out as default... is this incorrect or correct?

SUCCESS - -

At the same time, I deleted all files inside my usage directory except for index and the pngs (which are refreshed.

Minutes later when I checked this directory, new up-to-date stats were there. Yeah.

Thanks for help!

===============

Important steps: making sure webalizer.conf file was set correctly
Future step: set up cron job to refresh hourly so that things are up to date all the time.
