I have been using phpbb for awhile and it is exactly like this forum... except free. It is awesome, i would suggest trying it out. It is super easy to set up and they have some good forums on their site to ask questions.
It works easily with apache, mySQL and PHP of course. In fact, it is entirely too easy to set up.

you might give YaBB a try. it donīt use a database but stores contents in text files and works with perl. itīs easy to set up too. will run under doze too. so if you donīt expect real heavy traffic itīll do its job. i no more have the address but you can get it at hotscripts.com.
