Web File Server


iam using Redhat 9 Linux for proxy server and this server having lot much free space for file server. i want to create a web file server in my proxy server,so suggest me any softwares to bring my server in 2 roles.

Hi Satish,

What are the other servers on your network? Are you using Windows systems primarily or are you running a mostly Linux shop?

If you want fileserver software and you are running Windows clients, then consider building Samba for your Linux system to share with a genuinely windows feel. For web-based access to the files, you could use Apache and let people browse, but that would only work for you if you do not care about security...

Just like to point out that if you have the original RH9, and not RH Fedora 9 (which just came out), that system hasn't been updated/supported for yrs, so its open to exploits etc.
Strongly recommend you update.

Web File Server

i had created samba server and accessing in web browser already but now i need security for this. i don't want the chmod and chown permissions, please suggest any linux software for my query.

Hello, is there any linux software that I can use to set a web file server. Something similar to "Easy File Sharing Web server" in windows. thanks
