BESIDE xine.

im kinda tired of xine.... some thing always tends to fuck up ...well any way that just might be me...ok well can you refer me to something else beside xine?

Hitokiri_X 06-19-2002 04:28 PM

I like Mplayer

skeletal29 06-19-2002 04:36 PM

GCC 2.96 IS NOT AND WILL NOT BE SUPPORTED BY US !

thats my problem!

and with rpms to change the gcc would means reconfiguring everything

skeletal29 06-19-2002 04:49 PM

ok wiat i got the rpms and its installed

I installed

mplayer-0.90pre5-1
mplayer-skin-default-1.5-0.1

and now when i do mplayer -gui thereis no gui..
wtf?

Ztyx 06-19-2002 04:51 PM

I downloaded MPlayer yesterday just to try it out and when installing it as a RPM package it showed me a list of about 10 dependencies so my curiousity suddelny died when I realized I had to go look for all those packages...

ok wait i got it to work i just have to fiddle with the fuckin settings.

DAM WTF

how do i use the gui?

these l33t programmers can make the program but cant make a simpile gui thats hooked to it.

crashmeister 06-19-2002 06:05 PM

Download the regular packages and compile it. It works! And don't give up on xine yet - there are always some flicks one or the other won't play.

Type "mplayer -gui" at the command line and look at the error messages. Usually it tells you why it can't run the gui!

However, mplayer really doesn't need the GUI, I find it a lot easier to stick to keyboard navigation.

[root@lappy html]# mplayer -gui

there is your problem:

I know you used rpms, so I have no idea how to enable gui with those, but if you compile from source, you have to add a line after your ./configure that looks something like this:

./configure --enable-gui

skeletal29 06-20-2002 01:32 AM

i cant compile by source because the pacakge is bitching that i do not have the right compiler.

skeletal29 06-20-2002 02:18 AM

ok i did it. i used disable gcc checking adn it went fine.

its cool but i "think" that xine is better in quality

acid_kewpie 06-20-2002 03:14 AM

no way. MPlayer is DEFINITELY a techincally superior player. it's extremely optimized for a GPL program and is amazingly versatile (10+ different video outputs etc). Do you really need a gui? I never use it... you start playing a film.... and then 2 hours later it stops. why bother with a silly arsed front end?? the command line does take a little getting used to but so what? once you know it it is soooo much faster.

and of course as for gcc... install gcc3 along side 2.96 and it'll work fine instantly.

if you use mplayer for a while you'll soon see why it is so much better than Xine. just cos the gui isn't stable yet.. big deal. mencoder is THE best and easiest avi encoder too. nicer than anything i saw in windows certainly.

How come after a time period after I install xine, the video is extremely choppy? It gets to the point where I get only a frame a sec.

RefriedBean 06-26-2002 04:20 AM

xine

Use Xine.
I've never had any problems with it, not a single crash. I've you're having problems with it, try upgrading to the latest version (currently 0.9.11). If you get tired of its look an feel, get another skin, there are tons of skins.

Just my 2c.
