Exclamation want some help regarding usage of message passing interface

I need help in using MPI. Do we have to install MPI before using it? is it a package? I got the MPICH package from the net.I downloaded MPICH package and installed it. Then i wrote down a program in c in which i used MPI. I haven't been able to compile and run the program. First it did not include the file mpi.h .When i gave the complete path it did include the file but did not recognize the MPI environment management routines.
I searched the net and read that the programs using MPI were compiled using mpicc command. When i used the command,i got the error :command not present.
plz help me if u can. Quick response will be highly appreciated.
