Wait x minutes after boot to mount disks?
I have a fileserver that I'm using Wake On Lan. My laptop is setup on bootup to wake up the fileserver and then mount the shared folders. The problem is, my laptop boots up faster then the file server so when my laptop tries to mount the samba shares they aren't available yet.

If I wait until Gnome has finished loading and then run mount -a then by that time the file server is ready and everything mounts without a problem.

What I'm looking for is a way to automatically execute the mount -a command x minutes (or seconds) after gnome has finished loading.

I'm using Gentoo (actually Kororaa) on the laptop and Ubuntu on the file server.

this really doesn't sound like a good solution for the experience you would actaully want. i'd suggest using automount instead to mount the device on first use and unmount after periods of inactivity.

Thanks, I'll look into using automount, I've never used it before. Does it automatically mount the samba shares as they become available? IE it sits and waits for them to show and then mounts them?

it doesn't mount when they become available, it mounts them when you try to use it.
