vsftpd, xinetd on fc5

if anybody installed vsftpd on fc5 would you please tell how do u start and stop your ftp server? do you use xinetd (/etc/rc.d/init.d/xinetd start) or do u use the vsftpd service itself to do that like ( /sbin/service vsftpd start or stop)
i installed vsftpd from the source and i am able to started and stop it using xinetd but when stop xinetd it doesn't only stop vsftpd but also all the other servers that xinetd control - so i tried the second method but i get vsftpd is not a reconized service

Help thanks

I run vsftpd as a stand alone server and use "service vsftpd start" to run it. I am using the vsftpd shipped by Fedora.
