I have been working on vsFTP for the last two days and finially found the error I was looking for. I am using Redhat Linux 9.0 and the version of vsFTP that came with Redhat. Taking the original vsftpd.conf file and adding a single line "cmds_allowed=QUIT," I recieve an error stating that it is unrecognised. Taking that line out allows the FTP to function correctly. The exact wording of the error is as follows:
