VSFTP & Filezilla

Last semester I used vsftp to host an ftp server on my Linux desktop so I could manage files remotely, I recently re-installed Filezilla on my laptop and when I try to connect to my desktop it connects, but then hangs at "Waiting for Welcome Message" and disconnects. Does anybody know where in Filezilla I can tell it to skip waiting on the welcome message, or how to configure one in Linux for vsftp?
