Vqadmin in qmail not running

Hello all,

I was fiddling with qmail for some time to experiment with it and get used to it.
I am using RHEL5 for the purpose.
Downloaded the tar from qmailrocks and followed the procedure given in the website for installation. Everything goes well till the installation of Vqadmin. Even the installation of Vqadmin goes without errors.
But when I try to launch the Vqadmin through the web browser pointing to the cgi-bin directory that is located at
/var/www/cgi-bin/vqadmin/vqadmin.cgi.

When I point the browser to the given link I get an error from apache saying that
"The requested url my-system-ip/var/www/cgi-bin/vqadmin/vqadmin.cgi was not found on this server".

And yes, apache is running. All the files have been configured as said on the website.
Any idea what must have gone wrong?

Make sure that vqadmin.cgi is executable or check the apache error_log to see if you find what the problem is.
Maybe it's a SeLinux problem.

SElinux is disabled. Apache is running normal and the error_logs do not give anything related to that.
Straight away gives the message: "The requested url my-system-ip/var/www/cgi-bin/vqadmin/vqadmin.cgi was not found on this server"

If you see this error in your browser, then there is also something written in error_log

Yeah its now giving error
File Does Not Exist:/var/www/cgi-bin/vqadmin/var

But the fact is I am not visiting the page that is looking for.
Now why is it looking for var in vqadmin?
It should be looking for vqadmin.cgi there.

Maybe a configuration error. Re-check the steps taken to configure vqadmin

The configuration is same as given in the how-to on website.
I have not changed anything in it.
I have followed step by step configuration and have not missed any step or over looked anything.
This is not the complete configuration of qmail though but as given I should at least get the Vqadmin administration window in web browser.

That means that your default directorie for cgi-dir is /var/www/cgi-bin and for html is /var/www/html. If that's so, then check httpd.conf for any rewrite rules, or Alias/ScriptAlias, directives that can change the destination directory. Do the same for .htaccess.

Regards

Yeah default directory for cgi-bin is /var/www/cgi-bin. That is well configured in the apache as written in the how-tos.
Even there is no alias script that will alias cgi-bin to something else. I searched for alias and script alias but nothing seems to be wrong.
I have been stuck here for about couple of days and can not find this.
Is there something that could be out of apache and qmail that is creating problems.
I have no experience what-so-ever with qmail. The only mail servers I have used are sendmail and postfix.
Hence, the given documents on the website are the only way I can go by right now.

This is a vqadmin configuration problem, since calling vqadmin.cgi it's trying to reach a not existing dir.
You can remove the whole /var/www/cgi-bin/vqadmin and start over, after running make clean to run a clean ./configure:
Code:
cd vqadmin-x.y.z
make clean
./configure --enable-cgibindir=/var/www/cgi-bin --enable-htmldir=/var/www/html
make
make install-strip

I did try uninstalling and reinstalling Vqadmin package.
But same error persists.
Is there any other way that I should be looking at ?

Search for "/var/www/cgi-bin/vqadmin/var' or "/cgi-bin/vqadmin/var" in apache config file, or any other config files that are included in httpd.conf.
Just FYI, I've installed vqadmin for testing, even though I don't have qmailrocks but just a plain qmail installation and it works. So as I told, you there should be a configuration error somewhere.

After I wrote the last post, I completely removed RHEL5 from my system and reinstalled it as it was just an experimental fresh install.
I again installed qmail from qmailrocks. But still theres same problem.
If you would like, I can try some other method rather than qmailrocks. Though most of it should not matter as qmailrocks installation just has some scripts that automates the installation largely like creation of directories and files with the permissions on them that are needed for valid installation.
Nothing more to it though.
I can also try life with qmail installation method if qmailrocks is not working.
By the way, what installation method did you use? I will try the same and let you know the results.

It's not a matter of qmail installation and definitively not an OS installation, since what you're trying to install is a cgi script that interacts with qmail. It's just an apache/cgi configuration.
Anyway if you're interested I've followed the life with qmail howto. It was for a small webmail project with qmail and squirrelmail and all I did was to compile qmail and install/configure squirrelmail/apache.
Mind that in your case, in order to test vqadmin I hat to compile also vpopmail and play a little moving some qmail header files needed to compile vqadmin.
