Unhappy Volume issues in KDE

I am running knoppix 3.4. I have an intel integrated audio card on an msi motherboard. I can hear sound fine on certain apps such as juke and rythmbox but the audio seems a little distorted. Then when i run xmms the sound is fine with no distortion but the volume is very loud. When i go to adjust the volume absolutely nothing happens. I cant adjust the volume. Also, i have tried the mixers such as kmix and aumix and still nothing works. Yet i can adjust the volume in other apps inlcuding various media players. Why doesnt this work with xmms? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

go to a console and run alsamixer....

you will be presented with sliders to turn things up and down....sounds to me that your PCM preout is set to loud....take a few of the values and reduce them...

after that hit escape to exit and type 'alsactl store'

alsactl store save the settings you just set up....but if you are running knoppix via the live CD....but alsamixer should rock all day long....

that should help.....dig....let us know......

ROCK!!!
