vol_kio_process ?

Can anyone tell me what this process is/does?

It's currently running in the background, the other night it all of a sudden starting consuming a lot of CPU to the point where the box was struggling. I've looked around and all I can find is that KIO processes have something to do with the KDE desktop environment, but
KDE doesn't run on this box, can anyone shed some light?

kill it, see what happens. Find the package that the executable is in and remove it.

Of course, that's only if you aren't too worried about breaking your system.
