VOIP - Skype Supernode?

I'm running Zenwalk 5.0, a Slackware derivative. I'm posting in "Networking" because I don't think this is OS related. When I open Skype, and watch usage in "top", I'm noting that it opens 10 PIDs at 90mb each. What a hog. Perhaps I'm being used as a supernode? If so, or if not, how to keep the number of instances of skype to a single instance, instead of 10 instances, when I open it?

There should only be 1 instance of Skype running per-user (Skype user that is, I honestly wouldn't run more than one instance of Skype on 1 computer even if you had multiple users).

I had Skype starting up automatically whenever I logged in graphically in Gnome. Now I started using XFCE as my default desktop (felt like giving it a try). Now for some reason it has been starting 2 (or even 3) instances of Skype at a time when I login. I haven't bothered to look into what's going on in my case, but maybe you have a similar problem? Again, there should only be 1 instance of Skype running, just kill the others.
