Take a look at:

http://forum.inmatrix.com/lofiversio...t2256-100.html

... looks like vodei is not a video codec at all but a password protected archive. There seem to be more than a few folk calling this a "scam".

Vodei MP doesn't exist for linux - you will have to extract the audio and video manually to get rid of the wrapper.

interestingly, I actually gave a lecture on the evils of DRM in which I suggested a way to create your own DRM to make money on multimedia. The idea was to archive and encrypt the media content so it could only be played back by folk who had the key - and they pay for the key.

Looks like this is just a simpler version.

Vodei files are larger than the unadorned media files - so the claims that the "codec" is swifter to torrent would seem suspect. When challenged, the developer refuses to say how this can be, merely asserting that it works "somehow". Not confidence-inspiring.

Note, though, that other peoples DRI-burdened media formats make similar claims about why it's good for you?
