vnc server questions

how do you setup vncserver to export the current xwindows session thats running on a linux box... instead of it spawning a new xwindows session

eg. i already have kde running on the desktop, how do i export that desktop...

you can't. it's stupidly insecure for somethign like that to be possible. i'd suggest creating a vnc connection, and just connect to it locallly.

it's all behind my network anyways.... i don't care about security it's on a home network, and the server box is a xbox running gentoo...

Apparently there is software that will let you share a single desktop. Check here .

Otherwise you can run KDE over VNC by editing your .vnc/xstartup file so it starts KDE.

the thought that someone having a fiddle with something at home doesn't mean that it's any more logically sane to code an application in that way. there are things like krfb, which i guess might be what you're looking for, but is useless if you're not running icky nasty kde. Unlike windows things are secure by default, well.. most of them, and X is certainly in that basket and you should really be grateful of that.
