VNC issues in RH 8.0

Hello! First post here although i have been lurking.... Anyways..

I just installed RH 8.1 it has a feature (like xp) to give remote assistance emails. i can log in and interact with the root screen. I can sit and move my mouse locally and see it move on the remote machine. I started the vnc server on the remote machine and used client machine vnc to get to it. all i get is a grey box. I understand that i need to change the xstartup config file. but i don't want a different desktop i want the ROOT desktop. meaning, if i change something from work, when i get home it will be changed. i want just one desktop not 2 or 3 or whatever.
Thanks alot!
