VNC desktop forwarding on :0 ???

I have fluxbox running in my living room that I am using as a media pc running Freevo. I want to VNC into the box and control the current open desktop which is :0

I have done hours of googling and only found that it is called desktop sharing and how to use it. The only thing though is that I can only find out how to do it in the :1 desktop and not the :0 desktop.

I've tried 'vncserver :0 -alwaysshared' but I get errors that X has locked it or it just won't work. I can do of course 'vncserver :1 -alwaysshared' but that's not the desktop I want shared and to control.

I am using Ubuntu 5.04 on this box.

I want it to do like for example when you install VNC in windows how you get to control your windows desktop from a vnc viewer.

VNC

I don't believe fluxbox supports sharing the :0 desktop. Both gnome and KDE have methods of doing this in the latest versions.

You can connect to an existing X display via x11vnc . http://www.karlrunge.com/x11vnc/

How can I launch it if I log into the computer with putty? I run 'x11vnc -display :0' and get an error XOpenDisplay failed (:0)

I have putty forwarding to localhost:0
