VNC connection to SUSE Linux 10 from a Windows XP VNC Viewer
 

I installed VNC v.4.1.2 for X86 systems. It started but i cant connected from the viewer on Windows XP. How can I connect/test?

When you say you installed VNC... did you do this on the windows box (client)? or did you install it on Suse? If on Suse, you perhaps shouldn't have as it should come with it by default. You can turn it on easily by going to YAST2. Also, keep in mind that Suse9,10 use a nobody account for starting VNC server giving it an almost MS Terminal Services feel. Anyways, if you can, provide some more info...

Yes I installed the remote administration and can get connected through the web porstion. But i wanted to find a way to connect through the VNC viewer. The VNC viewer that I am connecting from is on a WindowsXP PC. any suggestions?

Forgot to mention I did install the server/remote administration on SUSE and the viewer on a Windows XP machine.

It should be pretty straight-forward. Make sure you're using this convention:

hostname:1
--OR--
ip.address:1

I tried that and it doesn't work. i even assigned a different port and tried connecting through the port(servername::port) and that didn't work either. I am not sure what is happening?

Would you mind displaying exactly what you typed in the connection console?

I tried using servername:2; servername::5902 here is the log file found in home\.vnc\servername:2.log

Hmmm... this has been known to happen occasionally with realvnc on Windows lately. Try it with TightVNC client on Windows and see if you get the same thing -- this way we can rule it out.

Try port 5901
 

Try using port "5901", this is what I use to connect to my SUSE servers using REAL VNC.

Server IP:5901

Hello! With standard Suse (SLES 10) Xvnc and VNC Viewer
(Free Edition 4.1.2) from RealVNC I can't get Cut and Paste to work. I think I've set everything in the viewer to allow it. How did you do it? There is talk about vncconfig, but that's not included in Suse. Do I have to run Real VNC Server on the Linux side?

What type of configuration does SUSE use out of the box when VNC Server is chosen during installation? I have multiple users (with accounts on my SUSE workstation) use vncviewer from their XP machines to connect to my workstation using 192.168.1.99 : 5901 The thing is, all users use the same IP and port, and once connected receive the normal KDE login screen. Once they type in their username and password, they are presented with their individual desktops (no sharing of the desktop or anything). I really want to recreate this under Mandriva, but don't know how to accomplish the same thing that SUSE does out of the box!

are you able to connect from the same box? type vncviewer in suse and start from here.
this is to see that the server is indeed configured and running. you then can try connect from other machines/platforms.

I'm having similar issues. I too was able to connect from the web, but not with vncviewer.exe from a WinXP box. Also, when I tried the above advice, I'm not able to connect with vncviewer locally (also a SLES box). I get the following error:

vncviewer: ConnectToTcpAddr: connect: Connection Refused

I don't have the firewell enabled, so I don't know why it would be refusing a connection? I'm not very linux literate, but could it be something like iptables? Any help would be greatly appreciated...it seems like the OP left this one up in the air... :)

EDIT: From the WinXP box, I enabled logging at verbose level 12. The logfile says "Deregistered connection from app"...any ideas?
