Im a complete newbie when it comes to Linux. I have recently installed it on a spare computer to use as a web/ftp server for my uni work. My preferred method of controlling this was through using VNC. I have set VNC to run on startup on the Linux machine, but found I had to start it on the command line to get it serving, I used vncserver 1 to do this. Trouble is, when I use the VNC viewer on my Windows XP machine, all I get is a grey screen saying please wait while initial screen loads.
I have set up my xstartup in ../../.vnc to include a path to KDE which I use, but my VNC viewer just gets stuck at this screen saying please wait.
Im no expert on VNC, but I have used it before with Windows XP and Risc OS, and then it took me a while to figure it out...
Im using RedHat v8, I found an option in the service configuration under control panel. Here it lets me decide which services I would like to run at startup. So in here i checked the box that says run VNC on startup.
Unfortunately, all I get when I try to connect to my RedHat VNC server is the grey screen saying please wait - initial screen loading.
