VNC connection failue

Greetings,

Recently, upgraded my server (falcon) to Fedora Core 2 and now I experience the following behaviour:

Connecting to the vnc server on falcon with a vncviwer also running on falcon brings up the remote desktop (complete gnome). Everything is great.

Connecting to the vnc server on falcon from my laptop (eagle), the vnc windows appears but only the gnome splash screen is displayed, its get no farther. The error logs for the vnc session report "no alsa found" repeatedly. This is despite the fact that alsa is installed on falcon and working perfectly (some rather excellent Iron Maiden blaring out of my speakers as I write this!!). No errors are reported when running from falcon -> falcon.

Eagle is running Mandrake 10.0 community edition.

Any thoughts much appreciated. Requests for my details most welcome.

Cheers

Logging into eagle as a user.
Connecting to falcon through vnc as a user.

Logging in to both falcon and eagle as root or user -> sounds works effectively for both.

What I cannot fathom is why sound would stop gnome loading. For example, firing up gnome on falcon before fixing sound generally. Sound did not work but gnome logged in fine. Why should sound stop vnc gnome loading -> which to me implies the alsa messages are red herrings?

Anyway help much appreciated and any more thoughts feel free....

Cheers

Now sorted thankfully...

It was the idea of connecting from falcon to eagle that got me thinking.

I have been running tightvnc 1.2.9 on eagle as the vncviewer while Fedora Core 2 has installed RealVNC 4.0.5. So I tried REALVNC vncviewer downloaded off their site. Low and behold it worked... I understand that it is the same source code but that the encoding may be different in some way???

Anyway happily switched to RealVNC now.

Cheers guys
