How do you get the vnc server to spin up a kde session?

I have tried to edit the ~/.vnc/xstartup to have exec kde & and exec kde-session & rebooting the server both times yet I still get a gnome session when I vnc to the box.

Thanks in advanced

On the off chance, have you killed any running vncserver and restarted the vncserver after editing the config?

Here's my ~/.vnc/xstartup on Slack 12, which works perfectly:

[ -r $HOME/.Xresources ] && xrdb $HOME/.Xresources
vncconfig -display=:1 -nowin &

You do have the permissions set for eXecute, don't you.

This for KUbunto
I had to put startkde &

Here is my xstartup
xrdb $HOME/.Xresources
xsetroot -solid grey
x-terminal-emulator -geometry 80x24+10+10 -ls -title "$VNCDESKTOP Desktop" &
#x-window-manager &
startkde &
