VMWare Workstation woes in gento 2.6.11-r3

Ok I am trying to get VMWare Workstation working so that i can try out other distros with out doing dual boots and the like. so i start off by running:

emerge vmware-workstation

That seems to go fine and it gives me instructions to run:

/opt/vmware/bin/vmware-config.pl

And i am presented with this:

/etc/init.d/vmware: line 919: [: -: integer expression expected

Stopping VMware services:

    Virtual machine monitor                                                  failed

Unable to stop services for VMware Workstation



Execution aborted.

I would really like some help here :-\

I'm getting the same error message with the new v. 5.5 vmware workstation, running on Gentoo with a 2.6.13 kernel. Any ideas, anyone?
