VMWARE video drivers and games

I recently purchased VMware and am wondering if theres a way to install video drivers. I attempt to install my geforce drivers but whenever I reboot the VM it doesnt load them.

I got counterstrike working with Linux and runs great, however with the advent of Steam I cant get it to work with Linux. The tools that come with it messes up the mouse movement in CS allot.

Has anyone got CS to work in VMware well? Is there a way to switch to OpenGL or Direct3D in VMware?

from what I understand VMWare does not support Direct3D

It does as of version 4, but its quirky. I use it to play Magic The Gathering (which uses an older version of Direct X) and I haven't had ANY problems...

I'll have to see what works and what doesn't on my Athlon as I can try the more powerful stuff there...I suspect the more recent directX games won't work...or won't work well, can't say one way or another...just that MTG which needs directX works. And on the site they mention that 4 supports DirectX somewhat IIRC

Install VM-Tools and that will give you the proper video drivers...

The only problem I have with the VMtools is that it really messes up HL and CS. Im trying a few other games now to see if the tools messes with them or not. Steam is evil with Linux so hopefully Valve and Transgaming can come up with something.

Yeah, at that point WineX might be for you (since I think you can use it for HL and CS, I don't know I don't play CS and I haven't tried HL in linux yet...I actually haven't played in a couple of years).

See VMTools is essentially the video driver for the virtual machine...so I don't think you can find a better driver for it really....
