VMWare Unable to open an initial console

I trying to convert a physical to virtual machine with VMWare.

I´ve copied the OS and reconfigured it to recognize the new SCSI controller LSI Logic. Later, i´ve executed the mkinitrd.

My problem: When system starts up, a message containing:

Freeing unused kernel memory: xxxx freed
Warning: unable to open an initial console.

appears and system hangs.

More information:

RHEL ES 3 update 5
kerneel 2.4.21-32.ELsmp

ls /dev/console
crw-rw-rw- 1 root root 5, 1 feb12 11:30 /dev/console

Can anyone help me?

Thank you
