vmware server mui - no web page

Having an issue with vmware server. Installed both the server and the mui successfully on my Debian/sid server. Everything built fine and is running, but when I point the web browser on my workstation at https://server:8333, the page remains blank. Going to http://server:8333 gives me

Code:
Bad Request
Your browser sent a request that this server could not understand.

Reason: You're speaking plain HTTP to an SSL-enabled server port.
Instead use the HTTPS scheme to access this URL, please.

    Hint: https://server:8333/
Tcpdumps show that when going to http://server:8333, I see the traffic. When going to the same https: address, I see no traffic.

I ran ssl-cert-check on the port, and saw traffic as well as getting the output returned:

Code:
 ./ssl-cert-check -i -s monitor -p 8333

Host Issuer Status Expires Days Left
----------------------------------- ----------------- -------- ----------- ---------
server:8333 VMware, Inc. Valid May 18 2020 5000
I have tried loading the page in firefox as well as galeon.
