vmware redhat 8.0

Hello, I am installing vmware 4.0 on red hat 8.0 and while running vmware-config.pl it asks about networking. I'm confused to what it is asking when it ask 'do you want this program to probe for an unused subnet' could someone please explain? I would like to have my quest OS have it's own legitimate ip address on the address, not dhcp (from network, or vmware). Any suggestions, documentation? Thanks

With VMWare, there are three types of adaptor you can have on your virtual OS. These are NAT, bridged or private. The unused subnets are for the NAT and bridged OS adaptor types and how they connect through to your local network. They will be harmless and will not affect the VMWare installation.

When you install your OS in vmware, if you want it strictly standalone, you can specify what the adaptor attaches to. The best place to read about this is in the help-files as they also give diagrams and explain it all a bit better.
