vmware mount /dev/hdb as normal user

to be able to mount /dev/hdb in vmware, a user needs rw permission on the /dev/hdb file. so, i can mount this fine as root, but i dont want my vmware always to be running as root. is there any way to get around this without changing the permissions for /dev/hdb?

You want to give a user rw permission without giving him rw permission? Hardly.
What is the output of `ls -l /dev/hdb`?

not necessairily, i just want to know if there is a workaround to this problem? it seem like it would be a common problem that a non-super user wants to mount a drive in a vmware machine...
