VMware + KDE = screwy keyboard?

I installed VMware on my debian box (kernel 2.4.21-xfs). Then installed w2k server as a virtual machine. w2k works well enough but when I exit out of the virtual machine my keyboard doesn't work in any application. If I logout using the mouse then I can relogin as the same user and it fixes itself. Anyone else here experience this phoneomenm?
