If you started vmware before or installed any virtual machines, those files are kept in your home folder-->vmware. If you are looking for the vmware preferences that is kept in your home folder-->.vmware.

You need to give a bit more information as to what you are trying to do, where are the files for the operating system stored doesn't really say much.

i dont mean the configuration/screenshot files(which are in the home folder) i mean the files that i save inside of the virtual machine. what i want to do is run the dvd copier in vmware then copy the files to linux which has a larger partition.

Those files will be contained within the .vmdk file (the virtual hard disk). You will need to run the guest machine in order to retrieve what you want.

If you setup networking between the host and guest machines you can copy from vmware-->linux and from linux-->vmware.

how would i set up the networking between the two?

Configure your vmware guest machine to use networking. In the <Commands> section of the vmware workstation window select <Edit virtual machine settings>. Choose the <Bridged> networking option.
