Just a tip :
I spent two day trying to optimize a vmware machine.
I/O on disk were catastrophic.
I finally switched back to 2.0.3 et voilą, it's much better now.
The test is simple : once vmplayer is usable, and once vmware is crippled. I/O on HD's are almost constant and host is swapping, no matter how i adjust the amount of ram for the vm. I spent two days doing all sorts of tests, changing the host's file system, tweaking the .vmx, etc...
So i stepped back.
This wasn't a question i posted : notice the light.

It's just that posts like these (with all due respect) don't contain enough data to be objective and can't be seen as a "generic solution" or "solid advice". You may not have posted it as a question but for me asking questions is the only way to help clear things up where possible.
