vlc won't play video with compiz running

Just installed Ubuntu 7.04 and I enjoy most everything about it. I'm having issues though with playing my videos.

When I have the 3d effects from Compiz (Open GL Desktop) running [wobbly windows, etc] VLC won't play the video portion of my movies or tv shows. All it will play is the audio and a black screen.

If i turn off the 3d effects it works fine. I would prefer to not have to switch it on and off whenever i watch a movie.

Can anyone help me?

Try going into Preferences -> Video and changing the Output Module

Can you select the video output driver of VLC? Ability of mplayer to play movies with Beryl running depends very much on the video output selected. The xv output all but locks the machine, while the X11(OpenGL) driver (-vo gl) is not so bad. Still no picture during cube rotation.

Don't really want to try all the possibilities in case I end up having to hit reset.

Thanks guys. I switched my video output driver to x11 and it worked. now the only issue i have is getting it to stay on that setting. i keep saving it but it doesn't seem to want to change permanently

Cheers,
