Ok so I was running vlc 0.8.2-r2 and it worked just fine. I ran emerge vlc and it upgraded to vlc 0.8.4 and all it will do is initialize the remote interface. I unmerged vlc and then remerged the 0.8.2-r2 version and still the same thing. Any ideas why vlc won't initialize the GUI?...this is pretty annoying.
