VLC Player Installation
 

Hi

Iam using suse 11.1, Iam stuck with a problem installing vlc player.

I tried to add the repository url for the same in yast, but it shows server access failure,but i have browsed the same without any problem.

Then i used zypper,but still no use.

Also I have tried to manually install vlc rpm,but it shows a lot of dependencies...anyone please help..

How did you try to add repo and which is the repo address???

I have added repo by:

yast2 -> software -> softwarerepositories -> add -> url

url is http://download.videolan.org/pub/vid...vlc/SuSE/11.1/

Try this
Open a terminal and give
# zypper ar http://download.videolan.org/pub/vlc/SuSE/11.1 vlc
and tell us what it appears

It was successfull
"
Adding repository 'vlc' [done]
Repository 'vlc' successfully added
Enabled: Yes
Autorefresh: No
URI: http://download.videolan.org/pub/vlc/SuSE/11.1 "

Now what is to be done??

Very nice Now give in terminal
zypper refresh
zypper install vlc
Ready!!!

It is still stuck during refresh, It shows
"
Retrieving repository 'Local' metadata [done]
Building repository 'Local' cache [done]
Timeout exceed

Abort, retry, ignore? "

ignore it

I have ignored refresh, and gave "install vlc"

But its still stuck...shows..
"
# zypper install vlc
Timeout exceed

This sounds like fault mirror. Maybe you added a wrong repo in yast2
Try to remove all NEVER worked repos like the link you wrote in your second post because i sent you another

And try again in terminal. If now tell us what says
Then try this to install vlc with one-click http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-suse.html
but you must fix this prob first because every time you will get the same error.

I have removed all unused repos from yast, then again tried with the url u sent, in zypper..but still the problem exists...!!

The one-click vlc install...is also not working, infact I have tried it earlier also...

This is getting too weird,really..freaking me out...

what's one click error?
