Oh! Lol! Blond moment! I thought I need to type something to open the specific file. The output is:

Code:
$ vlc
VLC media player 0.8.2-svn Janus
libhal.c 767 : org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceDoesNotExist raised
"Service "org.freedesktop.Hal" does not exist"

[00000250] main playlist: adding playlist item `/home/conradtheart/CowMatrix1.mpg' ( /home/conradtheart/CowMatrix1.mpg )
[00000312] oss audio output error: cannot open audio device (/dev/dsp)
/dev/dsp: No such file or directory
[00000312] esd audio output error: cannot open esound socket (format 0x00001011at 44100 Hz)
[00000250] main playlist: nothing to play
I guess I have to change the audio setting in vlc. But what do I change it to?

I have found this via SE and it contains too low answers.
What i have found is that vlc processes on Linux may hang, so one can kill it: kill -9 $(pidof vlc)
then the audio started playing it is some long term bug devs fails to fix.
Another thing to try is to change playback device in Audio / Audio device menu.
Third thing is to edit Tools / Preferences / Show settings "All" / Audio / Output modules / change output module.
fourth: sudo alsactl nrestore;pulseaudio -k; pulseaudio --start
