If you run vlc from a terminal, what errors go you get when you try and play avi and wmv movies??? Have you tried them in totem or another video player???

Sorry for taking so long to reply. How do I play a movie with vlc from terminal?

lebabyg 01-02-2007 08:33 AM

type videolan or vlc in a terminal

Oh! Lol! Blond moment! I thought I need to type something to open the specific file. The output is:

$ vlc
VLC media player 0.8.2-svn Janus
libhal.c 767 : org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceDoesNotExist raised
"Service "org.freedesktop.Hal" does not exist"

[00000250] main playlist: adding playlist item `/home/conradtheart/CowMatrix1.mpg' ( /home/conradtheart/CowMatrix1.mpg )
[00000312] oss audio output error: cannot open audio device (/dev/dsp)
/dev/dsp: No such file or directory
[00000312] esd audio output error: cannot open esound socket (format 0x00001011at 44100 Hz)
[00000250] main playlist: nothing to play

I guess I have to change the audio setting in vlc. But what do I change it to?
