What distro are you on?

billymayday 04-16-2009 01:33 AM

Probably mandriva 2009.

Did you follow these instructions http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-mandriva.html ?

Edit - sorry - just noticed how old the instructions are.

Why didn't you just install VLC from the Mandriva repositories? They work fine.
Did you configure your repositories using Easy-Urpmi? Failing to do so could explain that you did not find VLC in the repositories. See here:

You gave me a good laugh. Has the OP's issue been resolved?

I am running Mandriva KDE 4 and the Mandriva packages & PLF packages of VLC do NOT work in KDE 4.

The Gui will not load.

Do you have scim-bridge-qt installed?
I had this problem recently with VLC, and found (on Internet) that scim-bridge-qt was the cause, even if not used (just by being installed). The solution was to use UIM instead of SCIM, at least for QT, and uninstall scim-bridge-qt.

I have the IME SCIM installed. Should I URPE SCIm and then Try to run VLC?

SCIM itself is not the problem, just packages the name of which start with scim-bridge-qt. You can run for example:
urpme scim-bridge-qt3 scim-bridge-qt4

And then if later you find you miss some input methods in QT apps, then install the UIM equivalent, whatever that is (I'm new to those input methods; I did not need one until I started learning Japanese).
