Perhaps you should add the directory containing `libavcodec.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable

Instead of compiling from source, it would be easier to install VLC and MPlayer from a repo, like Livna.

I totally agree with spooon, compiling vlc or mplayer can be a pain. I guess that FC4 is similar to SUSE when it comes to development. You need to install the respective -devel package of each library you would like to include in vlc. From the above output I would guess you still have some way to go until you get a vlc with full functionality. If you have a chance to find a pre-compiled version, take it!

you can get the ffmpeg and ffmpeg-devel from the site
http://freshmeat.net/depends/download-all/36873/

I came here to check how to specify the PKG_CONFIG_PATH along with ./configure

Do find a solution , my compilation results are same as that of bruse...
