VLC control via remote control?
I suppose it wouldn't be extremely difficult to map keybindings in VLC to remote commands and then use something like irexec to interface with VLC.
However, I run MythTV, and typically launch my video player (mplayer) from within MythVideo, and use native LIRC support from mplayer; so I'm not sure how irexec events would interract with MythTV (whereas with mplayer it's native support so I don't have to worry about that). So, in a nutshell: Does VLC have native LIRC support? If so, can anyone point me to a doc on how to use it? If not, has anyone used a remote control with VLC through something like irexec, and do you have any pointers? Thanks! Cool |
Answering my own question:
Yes, there is a (less than desirably documented) LIRC interface for VLC. It doesn't use the typical key binding terms of "play" but rather a slightly cryptic term of "key-play". For Gentoo folks (and I'm sure anyone else who ensures their VLC is compiled with LIRC support) there is a Gentoo wiki entry that I found that was really helpful: http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_VLC Anyway, hope that helps someone who comes across this thread :) Cool |
