I have just installed fedora core 9 which looks and works great on my laptop, i installed VLC video player from livna using YUM which installed everything fine.

I ran vlc from command line verbose mode, please see output below...

i have done further investigation into the problem and it seems it could be a problem with the driver for my ati radeon mobility 1400x card, as when i try playing video files or even dvd's in vlc, mplayer or xine there is some sort of display problem the worst was with xine as it crashed and locked my machine up!!!

mplayer displays a black screen but plays sound, on command line the below error is displayed...

X11 error: BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)0.8% 1 0
X11 error: BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)0.8% 1 0
X11 error: BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)0.8% 1 0

Any ideas anyone!!!! the resultion and look of the laptop screen seems fine just getting problems playing video files, i have only managed to play flash based youtube vids so far.

Please help!
