VLC: Bookmarks, presets, saved playlists... Is this possible?

I absolutely love VLC, you can play anything in it. It's an awesome piece of software. I'm very pleased with it.

The only thing I can't figure out is how to preset or bookmark radio stations, streaming links, films, files, how to save playlists... It'd be cool to be able to create a playlist for parties, another for romantic evenings with my girlfriend, another for young people or for kids or my parents/grandparents, etc. It must be possible, because the 'Audio' and 'Video' menus are empty! I just can't figure out how to do it. Whenever I make a playlist, it disappears when I close and reopen the player.

If anybody can offer some help here, I'd really appreciate it...

Thanks a lot.

{BBI}Nexus{BBI},

Thanks for your reply. I still can't quite figure it out. Here's what I've done (it's in French over here, I'll try to translate, but the translation might not reflect what's in the English version):

View -> Playlist -> Manage ...
"Ajount d'une MRL (Add an MRL) -> Network Tab -> HTTP/HTTPS/FTP/... -> ... "http://www.sorrentoradio.com/prova/Sorrentoradio.asx" ...
... (it then appears on the list)...
... -> Manage -> Save Playlist ... (I've saved it in my homefolder and named it "RadioStations")
I then quit VLC.

THEN...
I relaunched VLC...
View -> Playlist -> (Nothing!)
... Manage -> Open Playlist ("RadioStations" doesn't appear in my home folder... It's there because if I try to save it, it asks me if I want to overwrite...)

Here's what's in one of the files (opened directly from my home directory without using VLC, (text file, (XSPF)):
Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<playlist version="0" xmlns="http://xspf.org/ns/0/">
	<trackList>
		<track>
			<location>http://www.sorrentoradio.com/prova/Sorrentoradio.asx</location>
		</track>
	</trackList>
</playlist>
Here's what's in the other (I saved using the two different choices offered when saving, this time round, M3U):
Code:
#EXTM3U
http://www.sorrentoradio.com/prova/Sorrentoradio.asx
Urghhhh!!!! What does all of this googly-gob mean?

What I want is a really easy and convenient way, with as few clicks as possible, to access a list of possibilities and then to choose what I'd like to listen to (radio stations, mp3s, videos, etc.)... I still can't quite figure it out...

Do you know where I might go from here?

Many thanks.

If you use the playlist manager, choose Manage--> Simple Add File or from the player File--> Quick Open File.

The reason why you don't see your playlist automatically when you choose 'open playlist' in VLC is because under Linux VLC doesn't save the playlist with any file extension. Look at the playlist in your home folder you will see just the name you saved it as, if you add .pls to it then VLC will see it when you select open playlist.
