New modules should be installed into /lib/modules/`uname -r`/kernel/drivers/
If, after your `make install`, there are no new drivers there, then something went wrong.
From within the git clone of the source code, try doing the ./build, and then afterwards, look in the ./v4l directory. That is where the build process dumps all the modules that it has built for you, so you should see a bunch of stuff there, and nothing should be 0 bytes. For example:
Code:
-rw-r--r-- 1 klaatu users 98K Jun 30 06:24 vp27smpx.mod.o
-rw-r--r-- 1 klaatu users 184K Jun 30 06:22 vp27smpx.o
lrwxrwxrwx 1 klaatu users 46 Jun 30 06:19 vp702x-fe.c -> ../linux/drivers/media/usb/dvb-usb/vp702x-fe.c
-rw-r--r-- 1 klaatu users 287K Jun 30 06:20 vp702x-fe.o
After that, a make install should copy the files from ./v4l to /lib/modules/`uname -r`/kernel/drivers/video
