Virus Software

Im coming from XP and have read a few web pages about not needing virus software in Linux - is this advisable for a new user?
Thanks
John

I do use virus scanning on linux, but only because I don't want to be a carrier for my Windows friends. Linux virus scanners like F-Prot or ClamAV run on linux but are scanning for Windows viruses. But there are very few viruses for linux in existence and none are loose in the wild.

pljvaldez,
Thanks for the help - just another reason to dump Windows.

linux viruses are so rare that there are no insidances in the wild at the moment AFFAIK.

you can still inadvertantly transmit windows viruses without getting infected,

a very decent client for getting rid of thease is AVG (www.avgfree.com)

there are 3 RPM files avalable to download, all with only 1 letter diffenrt in the name,

the leter that changes is imporant though,
m for mandrake/mandrivia
r for redhat/fedora
s for suse
