virtualization

Can someone tell me what "virtualization" is? I.E., what is it used for. Also, the x2x program; is that virtualization?

Thanks

Virtualization is running an operating system within another operating system, as if it were just another application. This way, you can use multiple operating systems simultaneously. In order to do so, the additional operating system need to be tricked into thinking that it runs directly on your hardware, while in fact, it runs on faked (virtualized) hardware as the virtualization system (vmware, virtualbox, etc.) presents itself to that operating system as if it were hardware instead of just a software product.

No, x2x is not virtualization. It is just a solution to use a single keyboard/mouse to operate multiple physical computers; in that case, you still have only one operating system on each computer.
