Virtualbox not detecting cd/dvd drive

Hi
THis might have been covered before, but
I have a fedora 5 system. tried to install both these files:

VirtualBox-1.5.4_27034_fedora5-1.i586.rpm
VirtualBox-1.5.6_28266_fedora5-1.i586.rpm
It cannot see the CD/DVD drive. Have tried everything, but still no-go
Is it something to do with udev or the hardware?

Have run out of ideas
Thanking u

You didn't say in your post, so I'm going to address the obvious first. There is a check box to tell virtualbox to mount your cdrom drive, and if you want to use the physical drive or an iso image. Have you checked that ?

The host Drive is grayed out.
the iso image does not work is says:
Failed to register the CD/DVD
image /mnt/win_d/Fedora-8-i686.iso
Callee RC: 0x80004005
it does not with any iso image in any location. i.e any directory or file
