Virtual (not multiple) desktops in KDE or Enlightenment

I want to know if KDE can have a virtual desktop larger than the screen size, so that you have to move the monitor around to be able to see the whole desktop?

No matter how large I set the resolution I still cant get the feel than the screen is big, so I think having it larger than my monitor (17") seems to be able to view at once would be the ticket :D

Failing that, could someone help me use Enlightenment as my WM/DE, I've compiled it but cant add/pick it to/from my login screen, and Mandrake doesnt use the common .Xsession or .Xinitrc files it seems :(

Ah ha, I gather this is a feature of XFree86 4, and the various settings are stored in /etc/X11/XF86Config and XF86Config-4. Thanks :)
How exactly do I edit them so that the default (for my user) is only slightly larger than the monitor size? :)

As that was rather easy, how about setting up Enlightenment too? ;)

If you've properly compiled Enlightenment, you can add it to your log-in screen like this:
Look in your /etc/X11/wmsession.d directory.
There should be some files called 01KDE, 02GNOME, etc. All you have to do is create a new one called ??Enlightenment (where ?? is a new number).
The contents of this file should be something like:

NAME=Enlightenment
DESC=The enlightenment window manager
EXEC=/usr/X11R6/bin/enlightenment
SCRIPT:
exec /usr/X11R6/bin/enlightenment

I'd recommend Enlightenment. I love the virtual desktop thing!

Hope this helps ;)

Properly compiled? ;)
I move to rename "Enlightenment" to "Got depencancy issues?" because it's had the most I've seen so far, and I've compiled quite a lot now! Cursed image formats... ;)

I'll try that asap, thanks :)

I couldn't possibly imagine why you'd want this as the default?

When it happens to me by mistake (say on an LCD display) I say "crud, I've got to reduce my resolution".

Cool Proud, tell us if it worked or not.

Well, I seem to have set the wrong install path when compiling from source, as it went into /usr/local/enlightenment but once I su, make uninstalled that I found the Mdk rpm on my 9.0 cds and the new install seems to have ended up in /usr/X11R6 and works fine. :D

I think I'll stick to Enlightenment rather than feck with my Xserver default resolution settings, thanks guys! :D

KDE is looking sweet and fast too, with an blue 'FusionX Aqua' style :cool:
Shame the 'bluesteel' theme in Enlightenment has a few errors for me atm.
