virtual machine can't find cdrom device
Hi you vmware guys!
I'm trying to install win98 inside a virtual machine, to study photoshop. I can run the 98 boot floppy ok, and I choose cd support for installation. But when the vmachine gives me a dos prompt, I can change to the cdrom drive letter (e:) but I can't read their contents. It fails, exiting with: "Not ready reading unit e: fail, retry, cancel, etc etc..." I tried to change the cdrom device from the vmware original setup (/dev/cdrom) to /dev/hdc and /dev/dvd (the drive is a dvd) but no good. Also, mounting and unmounting the cdrom doesn't change it. When running for the first time the vmware-config.pl file, the config told me it had to compile some modules for the running kernel, etc.., cause it hadn't found the correct match. I accepted, and it did go all the way to the end, exited and said vmware-config.pl was ok. What am I doing wrong? HW is Athlon xp / 256 MB RAM System is SuSE 9.1 Kernel 2.6.4-54.5-default vmware is 4.5.1 Virtual win is win98 Cdrom drive is /dev/hdc, for sure. Thanks! |
