Virtual accounts in Postfix

I've been searching the internet for an answer, looking through multiple books, looked at postfix website, put up posts...but no one has been able to give me a straight answer.

How do you setup Postfix to use email accounts that are not local users on the system.

Essentially, i want users to be able to check their mail from remote locations but i don't want their user able to login...security risk.

Surely there is a way to do this.

If there isnt, Linux is as doomed as Microsoft.

What do you mean by users may not login?
Is it login on a pop server or login by SSH/Telnet?

You can set the shell to /sbin/noshell or something like that in /etc/passwd for the mail users.

I don't want email users to be able to login locally...or by ssh or something like that...

My goal is to make an email server that allows people to check email over the internet...I have heard I need to make accounts for each email user on the server

How do I make the accounts on the server? isps have to do it somehow? if someone could just point me to a howto for making a email server (not for setting up postfix necessarily) I would appreciate it.
