Vim editing newbie needs help!


hi i need to edit my xf86config file (by the way this is REDHAT 9 i am using) as my resolution has gone a bit wrong (see an earlier post) i have been told to use vim. so i tried by typing:

vim etc/X11/xf86config

this loads vim, but the edit window is empty

can someone please tell me (in complete idiot language:

how to load xf86config in Vim
how to edit it
how to save it
how to get out of Vim to reboot

thankyou eternally if you can help
