vim 7.0

i just installed vim 7.0, but when i type gvim on terminal it takes me to older installation vim. "vim" on teminal takes me to vim 7.0, no issues there. any suggestion on how to correct this.

also, how to uninstall any software installed on linux

i use fc4

also how to edit .vimrc file ....
ruler etc are all lost in the newer version ..... i have to type :set ruler, :set csyntax etc everytime i run vim

downloaded vim-7.0-lang.tar and vim-7.0.tar.bz2

copied them to /usr/bin/vim7
tar xvf vim-7.0-lang.tar
tar xvf vim-7.0.tar.bz2

cd vim70
make install

or something similar
